Nepal
is a small landlocked country situated in South Asia boardering
China to the north and India to the east, south, and west. Nepal
is positioned in the global map with northern latitude of 26°22'N
& 30°27'N andeastern longitude of 80° 4'E to 88°
12'E.The country has a total land area of 1,47,181 sq.km. with
a slightly rectangular shape. The Length and breadth of the
country are 885 km east-west and 193 km south-north respectively.
The altitude varies from 70m in Terai (Plains) and 8848m in
higher Himalayas. Nepal is divided into 14 zones (Anchals).
Cricket is played actively in 12 Zones and its topography can
be broadly divided into three regions.
1)
Himalayan Mountains - Because of steep terrain and rugged
snow covered areas, not much economical activities take place.
Temperature throughout the year ranges from -25ºC to
10ºC.
2) Mid- Hill
- consists of Mahabharat ranges with some valleys like Kathmandu, Pokhara,
Dang and Surkhet. In this area cricket game can be played almost through
out the year except during monsoon season (Mid June to last of September).
Temperature through out the year ranges from 1ºC to 35ºC
3) Tarai
Plains adjoining Indian border- this plain area consist of plain agricultural
and forest area where most of the economical activities take place. Being
close to the Indian border much of the cricketing activities takes place
in the border towns. Temperature through out the year ranges from 10ºC
to +40ºC.
